Winter has a way of finding the trailer parts you’ve been meaning to replace.
A small air leak, worn seal, or questionable electrical connection might not seem urgent in November. Add freezing temperatures, snow, road salt, and moisture, and that small problem can quickly turn into downtime.
Before winter really sets in, take a few minutes to inspect these eight areas of your trailer.
  1. Air lines, glad hands & seals
Cold weather can expose worn seals and small leaks. Check for cracked lines, bad glad hand seals and connections that aren’t sealing properly.
  2. Air brake components
Inspect chambers, valves and related components before freezing temperatures make an existing problem worse.
  3. ABS components
Winter road conditions are exactly when you want the trailer’s ABS working correctly. Address warning lights and damaged sensors or wiring now.
  4. Brake shoes, drums & hardware
Don’t head into snow and ice with marginal brake components. Winter is a good reason to inspect wear and replace what’s getting close.
  5. Trailer lights & electrical connections
Shorter days mean more driving in the dark, while road salt and moisture are hard on wiring, plugs and connections.
  6. Door seals
Worn seals let water, snow and cold air into the trailer. For vans and reefers especially, check them before winter weather arrives.
  7. Mud flaps & mounting hardware
Snow, slush and road debris can finish off damaged flaps or loose brackets pretty quickly.
  8. Landing gear & lubrication points
Make sure the landing gear operates properly and moving components are serviced before they’re dealing with freezing temperatures, snow and salt.
Don’t let a worn-out part turn into winter downtime. Stock up now on the trailer parts you need to keep your equipment moving through the coldest months.
