ILoca Services, Inc. received a Goldhofer H6 here in Aurora, IL. The Goldhofer H6 Drop Deck is a hydraulically steerable lowboy and features an extendable deck that goes from a closed 39′ deck to an open 79.5′ deck, is 118″ in width, and has a 37″ loaded deck height. The Goldhofer H6 employs a hydraulic pendular axle suspension, which allows the deck to raise 6.7” and lower 3.5” (total stroke of 10.2”) from the 37” loaded deck height, and the hydraulically steered rear bogie has a maximum steer angle of 45 degrees. Each axle is spaced at 60” and has a capacity of 26,455 pounds, giving the H6 a payload capacity of 168,000 pounds; using a more conservative 20,000 pounds per axle, the payload is 129,000 pounds.
A unique feature of the H6 is the deck extension utilizing a single extension beam versus the two-piece extension tubes the competitors utilize, allowing for easier deployment and retraction. On your return legs, you can close the trailer and lift the first four axles, saving tire wear and money.
The hydraulically steerable trailer is considered a first and last mile trailer, able to nimbly get around obstacles and place your trailer exactly where it needs to be loaded or unloaded. The trailer is steered by a kingpin wedge that fits snugly into your tractor’s fifth wheel and, as the tractor turns, activates hydraulic cylinders, forcing oil via hoses to the rear bogie steering cylinders to the steering arms. You can also utilize remote control steering for those really tight spots where an extra set of eyes and hands are helpful.
