Storms and flooding in the Midwest are expected to continue. Illinois experienced record-setting rainfall in May, and there are currently flood advisories in Cook, Lake, DeKalb, Kane, McHenry, DuPage, and Boone counties. Governor JB Pritzker has also sent 200 additional National Guard troops to the southern end of the state to monitor potential flooding. Flood waters also inundate the Metro East Area.
In Iowa, storms left damage in their wake in the Quad Cities. The state recently saw hailstorms, 70 mph winds, funnel clouds, and toppled trees. Additionally, rising water levels in the Missouri River have stopped urgent levee repairs for weeks, worsening flood risk.
Wisconsin experienced strong storms last weekend. However, meteorologists predict the remainder of the work week will be dry and warm. This upcoming weekend may bring more rain.
Farmers in all of these states have experienced crop failures and delayed planting. Flooding in the Midwest has drowned entire fields of crops. This is causing prices of corn and soybeans to fluctuate and causing anxiety among farmers.
How to Stay Safe
